Dates worth reading twice

  • ANZAC Day in 2026 falls on Saturday 25 April. In Victoria, ANZAC Day is commemorated on the day it falls, with no replacement holiday when it falls on a weekend.
  • Melbourne Cup Day is Tuesday 3 November 2026 and is a public holiday across Victoria unless an alternate local holiday has been arranged by a non-metro council.
  • Boxing Day falls on Saturday 26 December 2026, so Monday 28 December is an additional public holiday.
  • Good Friday, ANZAC Day and Christmas Day are restricted trading days.

Where annual leave actually helps

Not every public holiday needs a trip. Some are better as one strong day. These are the breaks where one to four annual leave days can turn into something genuinely useful.
